1974 True Value Toy Catalog

Continuing our True Value series is this cool toy catalog from 1974, it's amazing how much things can change in a year or so. 1974 seemed to be a true mix of old guard toys mingling with the new, Big JIm rubs elbows with Johnny West. Barbie turns 16 and Ken goes Mod. Standards such as Sesame Street and Fisher Price dominate preschool as only they could.

SUPER FRIENDS COLORFORMS!!! yessss!!

i remember getting excited when each year's newest catalog came out for the "Best" chain. my mouth watered at all the cool set-ups they had for Star Wars, Megos, etc.

do kids have experiences like that nowadays? do dept chains even do big catalogs anymore?

I had the Ernie and Cookie Monster puppets, as well as Bert. Their hard plastic parts were really heavy. You could knock the crap out of someone with those!!! I recall feeding real cookies to my Cookie Monster puppet and having crumbs run down my hand.

Way-back machine goodness as usual Brain!
